This workshop will provide detailed information on developing and writing operational and student learning outcomes. Specifically, presenters will discuss the relationship between outcomes, measures, targets, and strategies and the importance of linking outcomes to prior assessment findings. Participants will practice writing operational and student learning outcomes that are reasonable and actionable within their specific context. After attending this workshop, participants will be able to write an outcome statement that includes all necessary elements.

This workshop reviewed how department and program level goals should be aligned to broader institutional or divisional goals, and how department and program strategies should be aligned and connected to their strategies and programs. Deductive and inductive approaches to mapping outcomes to strategies were also discussed. An in-depth example of outcome alignment was also provided in this session.

Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA) Shared Outcome
This workshop will provide an overview of the types of measures, types of data, and methods of data collection. Presenters will discuss how to align measures to strategies and outcomes, how to set targets and the importance of using reasonable and efficient measures. Using one of their own outcomes (or another unit’s outcome), participants will identify a reasonable measure and describe an efficient data collection plan. After attending this workshop, participants will be able to describe the difference between direct and indirect measures.

This workshop was offered in spring 2019. It covered practical strategies for designing and implementing focus groups as an assessment method. Tips and examples to help implement focus group plans were provided, including sample documents, templates, and checklists. This workshop supplemented material covered in the fall 2018 workshop.
This workshop will provide an overview of the purpose of quantitative data analysis in student affairs assessment, as well as the types of data analysis commonly used. Presenters will discuss how to match the analysis strategy (descriptive, inferential, etc.) to the type of data. Additionally, they will walk participants through the process of reporting results as actionable findings. Participants will use examples from their own work to create a reasonable and purposeful analysis plan.

Presenters will discuss effective ways of reporting findings, what to do with unexpected findings and the importance of incorporating findings into program improvement and future assessment. Using scenarios, participants will practice reporting findings and using them to inform the next assessment cycle. After attending this workshop, participants will be able to provide an example of how to incorporate assessment results into future assessment plans.
